She established Brothers of Italy (FdI) with two other men in 2012 and served as its president from 2014 to 2016. Following the 2018 Italian general election, she became the helm of FdI as it spent the whole 18th Italian legislature in opposition, where it saw a surge in support in the polls, especially during the tenure of the Draghi Cabinet.
