WhatsApp Settings Scam | You don’t have to be concerned about your privacy now that you’ve learned about the WhatsApp Settings Scam. Because it isn’t a ruse, but rather a simple change of settings. Here’s everything you need to know.

Users on social media are warning their friends about WhatsApp’s new privacy settings. Users are frantically checking their privacy settings, claiming that WhatsApp has secretly changed some of them. Is it really something to be concerned about? Is it really necessary to double-check your settings? Here’s how it works.

What Is WhatsApp Settings Scam

Following the viral controversy over WhatsApp facilitating data sharing with Facebook, the platform has received a new notorious update without informing users. Users have taken the update to various social media platforms to share it with their fellow users as soon as they have noticed it.

“WhatsApp has recently changed its group settings to include “everyone” by default, so people you don’t know can add you to a group without your knowledge,” writes @Mobberley in a Tweet. Scam messages, loan sharks, and other types of people may fall into this category.”

To change the settings, go through the steps below:

  • Create a TikTok account.
  • Select the Settings option from the menu.
  • Account should be selected.
  • Go to the section on privacy.
  • Choose “Groups” from the drop-down menu.
  • Change the setting to “My Contacts Only” from “Everyone.”

WhatsApp Group Settings Scam

Users are sharing a message on Facebook and other social media platforms to alert others to the sneak update. If you haven’t yet received this message, it’s as follows:

“WhatsApp has changed its default group settings to include ‘everyone,’ allowing strangers to add you to a group without your knowledge. Scam messages, loan sharks, and other individuals may fall into this category.

Its default settings can be changed as follows: 1. Access WhatsApp: 2. Select Settings 3. Select Account 4. Select Privacy 5. Navigate to Groups. 6. Change the word (everyone) to (everyone) (My Contacts) This is correct. I checked mine and discovered that all of the settings had been changed to everyone rather than my contacts.”

You might think that this is a recent WhatsApp update, but it turns out that this setting has been available for quite some time. Since its introduction in 2019, the group setting has been set to “Everyone.” If you haven’t checked this setting before, now is the time to do so, as it could jeopardise your privacy.

Has WhatsApp Changed Its Group Settings

WhatsApp’s group setting isn’t a recent addition; it was first announced in 2019. In one of their blog posts from 2019, WhatsApp discussed the settings. It says:

“WhatsApp groups keep bringing family, friends, coworkers, classmates, and others together. Users have requested more control over their experience as they turn to groups for important conversations. We’re launching a new privacy setting and invite system today to help you control who can add you to groups.”

As a result, it demonstrates that it is neither a ruse nor a recent update. It’s just that now people are aware of it. You have three options to choose from if you haven’t changed the setting yet. The group privacy settings can be set to Everyone, My Contacts, or My Contacts Except. You will have more control over your privacy and will not be added to useless groups if you keep it to “My Contacts.”
